Biobeads was born from lived experience, not theory. Founded by John van den Heever, a recovering addict himself, the project began as a simple but powerful idea: what if recovery could be seen, touched, and shared? What if the people society often overlooks were given a voice — not filtered, not polished, but honest? Over five years, through setbacks, personal battles, and quiet victories, Biobeads grew into a platform where recovery meets purpose, where the less fortunate get to contribute and feel like valued members of society.
Every person who creates Biobeads jewellery is in recovery. Each bead is placed with intention, patience, and accountability — values that recovery demands daily. The QR-code system ensures that every piece is directly connected to the person who made it. Their story is theirs alone, shared with consent, courage, and pride. These stories can be painful to read, but they are also deeply hopeful. They remind us that no one wakes up wanting to struggle, wanting to be less fortunate or wanting to be an addicted, and no one recovers alone.
Biobeads exists to restore dignity and build bridges of understanding. We want customers to pause, reflect, and truly see the person behind the product. When you support Biobeads, you help fund recovery, create opportunity, and challenge stigma in a real, measurable way. This is not charity. This is empowerment. Look for Biobeads, wear it with meaning, and become part of a movement that proves recovery is real, people can change, and every life has value.
1. To give everyday people, those struggling with addiction, those caring for addicts and those who are less fortunate, a chance to hear real voices behind recovery.
2. To show that addicts and the less fortunate are people — deserving of dignity, compassion, and more than just a second chance.
3. To demonstrate clearly that recovery is possible for all.
